TL;DR: We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. All user preferences and tab information are stored locally on your browser only.
Overview
Tab Saver is a Chrome browser extension that helps users manage browser tabs, free up memory by discarding inactive tabs, organize tabs by domain groups, save and restore browsing sessions, and close duplicate tabs. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
Data Collection
We do not collect any user data. Specifically, we do NOT collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Financial or payment information
- Authentication credentials
- Personal communications
- Location data or IP addresses
- Browsing history — we read tab URLs only locally for grouping and deduplication, never transmit them
- User activity tracking or analytics
- Website content
Local Storage
The extension uses Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local) to save data on your device only. This includes:
- User settings (auto-sleep timer, whitelist domains, pinned tab exclusion)
- Saved sessions (lists of tab URLs and titles for restoring later)
- Discarded tab metadata (URL, title, favicon) — cached locally so the extension popup can display correct information after a tab is discarded via
chrome.tabs.discard
This data never leaves your browser. It is not transmitted to any server, cloud, or third party.
Permissions Explained
- storage: Save user preferences, sessions, and discarded tab metadata locally on your browser.
- activeTab: Identify the currently active tab so it is never accidentally discarded.
- tabGroups: Organize tabs into domain-based groups for easier management.
- alarms: Run periodic checks to auto-discard tabs that have been inactive beyond the user-configured threshold.
- favicon: Retrieve website favicons for display in the tab list and domain groups.
- Host permissions (all_urls): The extension reads tab URLs locally for domain grouping, duplicate detection, and whitelist matching. It does not inject scripts or modify page content. Tab management is inherently cross-site — we cannot predict which sites users will have open.
Third-Party Services
This extension does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.
Remote Code
This extension does not use any remote code. All JavaScript and resources are included within the extension package.
Children's Privacy
Our extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
